Carlos G. Flores: PC

Computers bear watching. Usually while you are not looking, they decide that perhaps their existence is a bit boring. Maybe getting a virus or installing some spyware will provide the fun that it so sorely lacks. Usually, like human beings, it is too late once it figures out that one night of fun on Saturday with a couple of hot, young unprotected servers has left it with some nasty virus in its system. Most of us have been there. Maybe even you.

I kid, I kid.

With my help, I can help you get rid of those troublesome viruses and extra programs. Unless you want your computer extra slow with a side of identity fraud and assorted porn pop-ups...

So, here is the deal with the whole "PC geekiness" thing in the links on this website and the whole "[Windows] [Mac] [Linux] geek + open source software enthusiast" on my business card:

[Windows]

» I can clean up your old, beat up computer of nasty spyware, adware and viruses that do nothing but eat up CPU cycles and your memory, making your system slow, sluggish or even unresponsive. After, it will feel like a totally different computer!

» I can help you catch up a bit in the times by installing XP on your PC, just in time for the new version of Windows to come out. So what if you are one Operating System behind? It is not like you are a software developer anyways. After all, if you are, you would not ask me for help.

» I can also help you reinstall XP in extreme cases. Think of it as my "Nuclear Option." Your system will feel new and fast.

I can also install other programs. Too many and varied to list. Drop me a line if you want to talk.

[Macintosh]

Even though Macs are real good on their own, perhaps you need some help figuring some things out.

» Maybe you want to install XP on your shiny Mac Book because you need it for school, work, etc and do not know how to even get started.

» Hell, maybe you actually have a problem.

I can help you with your Mac. It does not matter if it has a G3, G4 or Intel chip.

[Linux]

» Maybe you have heard of that damn Linux thing from some nerds and do not what the hell the big deal is about and would like to learn.

» Or you might be tired of your Windows PC crashing and burning too many times and are ready to make a very radical change.

» Maybe you are Operating System agnostic and do not know it. As long as your Computer does what you need it to do fast and without crashing, you do not care what the hell runs in it.

» Maybe you do not want to shell out over $100 just to upgrade your old PC to XP or do not want to spend over $1,000 on one of those Apple Computers because you are tired of crashes and viruses.

» Maybe you have an old PC laying around that you could use for basic stuff like Internet and word processing, Or want to even give it to grandma, but do not want her dealing with all those Windows headaches.

» Or you are ready to ditch either Windows or Macintosh and want something different on your computer.

I can teach you a bit about Linux, install it in your PC and get you set up. Hell, you will probably never look back after that.

[Open Source Software]

What is Open Source Software? You migh ask. A quick explanation taken from Wikipedia, is: "Open-source software is computer software whose source code is available under a copyright license that permits users to study, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified form. It is the most prominent example of open source development." (link for whole article in Open Source Software from Wikipedia here.)

It can be Software created by indiviuduals usually on their free time in order to fill up a hole or provide a feature that they did not have software for. Maybe they feel that they can create a better program than those being churned out by the big software developers or perhaps, money. Maybe a program is too damn expensive and this person feels that it is better to create the program themselves instead of spending the money on it.

I am a fan of this sort of software. If I need it, it is free, and there are no strings attached, I will use it. Who does not like free things hmm?

I can help you:

» find that one application that you need so desperately, but do not have the money to spend on it.

» Use a free equivalent of a very costly program for your day to day activities (like a free equivalent to Microsoft Office.)

» Use software and files that are not locked down by proprietary code (iTunes, I am looking at you)

» Use software that is does totally off the wall things (maybe you need a way to have a stock market ticker on your desktop without having to keep an open internet browser window all day, or a program for all your IM accounts in Yahoo, Google, and AOL without opening an IM program for each.)

in the end, you can ask me what you want to do, and chances are, I know of a free program that can do it. After all, who has all that time to search for crap in the internet all day? That time is better spent on Facebook or youtube or trolling for Pr0n.

[Other things]

I can upgrade your computer, give you advice on purchasing a computer, steer you to some places online for any sort of help, and do crazy things, like put Mac OS X on a regular PC (see picture at the top of the page) Contact me, and we can talk about what do you want to do.

[Money]

Starving Student? No, problem, I will not charge you an arm and a leg for some work. I will ask for money, of course, but not a lot compared to those idiots at Best Buy or CompUSA.
